Abstract

Spatial Monthly Water resources Database of Bandung Basin has been developed to fulfi ll the necessity of more detailed quantitative water resources information. Database development was based on soil water balance using Curve Number (CN) method, distribution of soil permeability tension (pF) and hydraulic conductivity (k) of existing rocks. Input data were monthly isohyet, land use, soils and geologic maps that were processed in GIS software. Isohyet was derived derived from rainfall data and DEM, whereas land use map was derived from satellite LANDSAT/ASTER image. The objective of this paper is to represent simple and appropriate procedure for 1:5000 map scale resolution, in simulating monthly water availability. The outputs of the calculation could be presented as monthly thematic maps of water resources component such as surface water, evapotranspiration, infi ltration and percolation, as well as graphics of tabular data for over all study region or selected area. The estimation results from the data of 2001 and 2004 show the increase of surface run-off and decrease of groundwater availability due to land-use change and rainfall decrease. This database can be use to forecast the future water resources availability caused by land use changes as well as by climatic changes.

Abstract

Oncom is a product prepared by fermenting cooked peanut presscake as substrate mixed with tapioca fl our using Mucor sp as inoculum. The aim of this research is to determine the chemical composition and nutritional contents of black oncom using lupine (Lupinus angustifolius) and pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) as substrate instead peanuts ( Arachis hypogaea ) to evaluate its potential as a new source of protein. The moisture content, pH, texture, solidness, hardness, mold growth and colour of black oncom fermented product were observed. Various tapioca fl our concentration in amount of 5%, 20% and 35% respectively were mixed on peanuts, lupine and pigeon pea as substrates. The fermentation process was conducted for 48 hours at 30oC.The result revealed that the addition 20% of tapioca to substrate showed the best performance of black oncom product and had good sensory characteristics such as texture, taste, aroma and colour based on the sensory evaluation test.

Abstract

Optimization of magnet skewing of 1 kW, 3 phase, 300 rpm permanent magnet generator has been conducted in this research. The optimization is carried out by simulating some position of the rotor magnet skewing (x). The defi nition of skewing in this experiment is the outer line of one pole that is appear due to the shifting of two magnet segments that forming the pole. The three skewing position that is analyzed are x1 = 16 mm, x2 = 21 mm, x3 = 25,6 mm. Those skewing positions result in different harmonic distortion (HD) and EMF voltage waveform. The experimental validation shows that the best characteristic is obtained at skewing of x = 21 mm with HD = 11.9% and has the most sinusoidal EMF voltage waveform.

Abstract

Integrated information system of e-government (http://www.bit.lipi.go.id) which designed and built using Joomla 1.5 aims to raise the potential of information possessed by the Technical Implementation UniTechnology Information Division of LIPI, to be known and exploited by the public. This system also as a forum / medium for UPT-BIT civitas in communicating and exchanging information through the internet. Potential information which poured and integrated into such systems are the potential information of multimedia, the potential information for library, and the potential information for dissemination and collaboration. Joomla features that used in buil ding such systems are JoomlaComment!, Media Player, Agora Forum, DOCman, WbGallery, EventList, AllVideos Reloaded, etc.

Abstract

Test on the method of analysis to determine oil dispersed in water has been carried out using an instrument, OCMA-350 Horiba based on infra red absorption. The oil samples used in this test were B-heavy oil, cutting oil, and diesel oil. The results of the experiment indicate that the calibration of the OCMA -350 Horiba needs to be done by using the standard oil according to the type of oil tested. The use of the method for all oil tested shows good results. The B-heavy oil in the water with a concentration 179 mg/L gave a recovery of 99.04%, with variant coeffi cient 1.48% and detection limit of 0.54 mg/L. Similarly, the cutting oil with concentration 178 mg/L gave a recovery value of 99.51%, with variant coeffi cient of 2.49%. Finally, the analysis of diesel fuel in the water at concentration of 84 mg/L gave a recovery value of 100.32% with variant coeffi cient 3.71%

Abstract

The age range of UPT BPI LIPI employees is relatively unbalanced. 71,42% of the employees have already exceeded 40 years old and 58,73% of them will be retired in 2015. Based on these facts, UPT BPI LIPI needs a Knowledge Management System (KMS) that can store knowledge assets of the employees. Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) is used as a method to identify the knowledge and to develop the best architecture design of KMS for UPT BPI LIPI. There are fi ve stages in the knowledge management cycle for calibration services in UPT BPI LIPI, namely knowledge acquisition, knowledge extraction, knowledge storage, knowledge sharing, and knowledge update. The result of SSM showed that KMS design can be applied to create knowledge, to share knowledge, to record knowledge, to store knowledge, and to reuse knowledge, so it can be optimize the calibration services in UPT BPI LIPI.

Abstract

The novel compound of analog UK-3A defi ned as 2-hydroxy-N-octylbenzamide was successfully synthesized by the amidation reaction of aromatic carboxylic acids and primary amine by adding the activator of DCC (N, N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide), catalyst DMAP (4-dimethyl amino pyridine), and chloroform as a solvent (5 mL). The reaction held in the dean-stark device with continue stirring at 60C for 24 hours. Result shows yield as much as 93%. The structure was identifi ed using UV, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. Bioactivity of the compound was tested in vitro against murine leukemia cancer cells P-388 by using the MTT (3 - (4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide. The result of bioassay showed that this analog compound can inhibit the growth of cancer cell Murine leukemia P-388 with a higher activity than UK-3A indicated by the value of IC50 (inhibitory concentration). IC50 of analog UK-3A was found 7,5 ?g/mL whereas IC50 for UK-3A was 38 ?g/mL.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to investigate alpha glucosidase inhibitory activity from Syzygium species. 20 of syzygium species was extracted using 70% ethanol and evaporated to be tested for its alpha glucosidase inhibitory activity and resulted that S. cumini and S. syzygioides have a high alpha glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC50 value was 8.71 ppm and 7.48 ppm respectively. Further investigation on some parts of S. cumini plant showed that the highest activity was found in the cortex with IC50 value of 0.45 ppm. Fractionation of ethanolic extract of S. cumini cortex using n- hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, n-buthanol and water resulted that the highest yield was in water fraction with IC50 value of 8.15 ppm. Phytochemical screening assay showed that ethanolic extract of S. cumini cortex contained terpenoid, phenol, saponin, tannin and fl avonoid.
